Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she's as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he's becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate's coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans. As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.Henry's first wife, Persephone.

My review:

Cover:
I think the girl in the US covers of both The Goddess Test and Goddess Interrupted is gorgeous. My ARC copy had the Australian cover of Goddess Interrupted yet I couldn't find the image in Goodreads so I'm going to with the US cover for this review! The Australian cover is also gorgeous though! I also love the title's font!

4 Forget-me-not flowers for the cover!
Story:

Immortality is not the end...

After 6 months of leaving Henry, Kate is finally back. But Henry is acting strange towards her and Kate knows that there is something wrong. When Calliope frees Cronus, the king of Titans and kidnaps Henry, Kate must save her husband. Although, the only person who can help her find Henry is the one and only Persephone, Henry's first wife...

I've read mixed reviews on Goddess Interrupted and it had me worried to start the book. I really loved The Goddess Test and I thought it was such a unique re-telling of Hades and Persephone mythology that I never would have thought of. Goddess Interrupted is a story of Kate's development and growth as a character with an exciting new plot. I really enjoyed the fact that Persephone is a part of the story since I am really intrigued in how Henry would act if Persephone is around while Kate is his wife. The particular bits of the story that made me annoyed was when Henry and Kate were together. I didn't quite enjoyed reading the scenes when they were together because I just didn't feel the chemistry they had in The Goddess Test when they came to love each other. The book started out slow for me and I wasn't quite hooked but it gets exciting and made me want to keep on reading. The ending was a shocker and I didn't expect it at all!

Characters:
I particularly think that the characters are what made me didn't quite enjoyed this book as much as The Goddess Test. Kate wasn't quite a heroine I adore in this book. She was a bit too demanding and has too much jealousy inside of her. I do try to understand how Henry is very cold towards her when she gets back and how she is not sure whether or not Henry loves her. But, to me this just shows that she does not trust her husband and makes me question why Kate wants to marry Henry if she keeps on questioning him every single day? Not to mention, Henry is absolutely too cold and harsh towards Kate. She is after all, his wife and he should not treat her that way. Plus, he is also unfaithful when Persephone is around. Even though near the end of the book Kate and Henry reconciles and tries to fix their relationship, I still can't quite feel their chemistry yet. I can feel it building but it's not quite there yet.

Persephone is a very interesting character who annoys me a lot. She is absolutely selfish and arrogant. Even though I dislike her, I love her appearance in this book because she gives an exciting touch to the story's plot. I do still enjoy reading about James, Ava, Walter, Diana and even Calliope who seeks revenge and wants to kill Kate in this book. I still absolutely love how Aimee decides to write an 'English name' for the Gods and Goddesses which gives this modern feel to the story!

Overall:
Goddess Interrupted is an exciting sequel to The Goddess Test with the entrance of Persephone as a major part of the book. Goddess Interrupted is a trial to Kate and Henry's relationship as they question each other. While I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one, it was still an enjoyable read! I do still recommend those who love reading the first book to pick up the second book and read it when it's out!
4 Forget-me-not flowers for Goddess Interrupted!
Thank you Harlequin Teen Australia and Harlequin Teen [via Netgalley] for the review copy!

  1. I keep hearing tons of mixed reviews for this book too so I've been kind of excited-wary about it even though I ADORED the first book, but I'm glad that you thought it was an exciting sequel! Even if the romance isn't what you hoped it would be (because HENRY! He was such a sweetie in the first book! <3), I'm stroking my chin about Persephone -- she seems like the kind of girl you love to hate! ;)

Awesome review, Celine! Can't wait to get my hands on this and the pretty US cover (and I really want to see the Australian cover too!)! :) <3

  3. I'm glad you enjoyed it, even if it's always disappointing when the sequel isn't quite as good as the first one! I'm super curious about this series and have to pick it up soon. I'm so behind on so much awesomeness. o:

  5. YES. I absolutely agree about Henry and Kate. They both kind of infuriated me many times throughout the book. I mean, I could understand where their feelings stemmed from, but they were FRUSTRATING. And I wanted to shake Henry into just giving Kate an explanation, maybe?! I wasn't really feeling the chemistry either =\ Le sigh. And yes, Persephone's appearance is something I enjoyed too. She's not always the nicest, but she added... spice ;)

    Fab review, Celine!

  7. "Even though near the end of the book Kate and Henry reconciles and tries to fix their relationship, I still can't quite feel their chemistry yet. I can feel it building but it's not quite there yet."

See that's EXACTLY what I'm worried about. I thought they'd moved past all that drama BS but now I've been finding out about this nonsense of them not acting like they're together. I hope this book goes smoothly for me, anyway.

Even though near the end of the book Kate and Henry reconciles and tries to fix their relationship, I still can't quite feel their chemistry yet. I can feel it building but it's not quite there yet.

  9. Yeah, Kate and Henry really bothered me in this book. As characters they kinda ruined the story for me. Henry was too mean. Why does Kate put up with his crap? But I am happy you enjoyed the book overall though.

  10. I know exactly what your mean about Kate and Henry's relationship; it's not strong enough. I hope it gets to be strong in the third book. Wonderful review.
