Cover:Summary from Goodreads:She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.
Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.
Her father was right. The monsters are real….
To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….
THE COVER ROCKS ROCKS ROCKS! The girl is so pretty, her dress is AMAZING and I love how there's the forest that seems to be catching up on Alice. Love how the cover also have the diamond, heart, clover and spade patterns!
Story:
Off with their heads!
As you can see, this book is about zombies. Now, I haven't read many books about zombies but Alice in Zombieland has got to be the best zombie book I read so far! Gena Showalter has a unique take on zombies and the story plot is absolutely hooking. I just can't get enough.
Alice in Zombieland is written from Ali's point of view and basically tells Ali's story as she discovers the truth about zombies and learns how to fight them. This book is not a re-telling of Alice in Wonderland although there are some references such as the white rabbit. The zombies in this book really scare me. They are like stalkers and they seriously creep me out! But what I love most about this book is the full-on action. In this book, zombies are not physical beings but they are spirits. So, fighting them is not as easy as fighting a human. It requires an extra step to actually be able to see them and fight them. The fight scenes are just amazing! To top that even more, the romance and chemistry between Cole and Ali is SIZZLING. From the very first time I read about Cole, I am intrigued. And by the end of the book, I've fallen head over heels for him. The romance between Cole and Ali is not quite love at first sight because their relationship develops as they spend more time together but the attraction when they first meet is clearly there. Another interesting thing about this book is that zombies are not the only enemies and this is why I am desperate for the next book to know more about it!
Characters:
Oh yes, meet my newest favourite heroine, Ali! Ali seriously rocks. I just adore and love her. She fights zombies, enough said. When her family dies, I feel really sorry for Alice but I'm glad that she does not dwell in her sorrow too long! When Ali fights zombies, she is completely kick-ass and not to mention her relationship with Cole. It's just full of chemistry, attraction and the scenes between them are just hot. Cole is such an awesome guy too. He is absolutely protective of Ali and really cares for her. I like how he likes to wear baseball cap, giving him this sense of mysteriousness and bad boy type! Cole's friends are really fun to read about, like Frosty! (Love that nickname. And yes, you'll find out why he's called Frosty when you read the book!) Kat, Ali's best friend is just awesome. I love how she is so supportive of Ali and even if Ali sometimes hide the truth from her, she is completely understanding. Well, I guess I should mention the zombies too since they are technically 'characters' in this book and my comment is only: don't eat my brain or actually, don't eat me!
There's also the other enemies besides the zombies that I really dislike. I don't want to spoil it for you guys but let me just say, I dislike them even more than the zombies!
Overall:
Dear Gena, I'm in love with your first YA book. It's SIZZLING, it's loaded with amazing fight scenes, Cole and Ali seriously rocks and to top it even more, it's about zombies! Gena's kick-ass writing and Alice in Zombieland will take you to the exciting world of zombies. Just be sure not to let them eat you!
