Acknowledging that she was different from everyone else wasn’t difficult for Wendy Everly – she’d always felt like an outsider. But a new world and new family is a hard for any girl to accept easily.

Leaving behind the mysterious country of her birth, she is determined to fit back into normal life. But the world she’s left behind won’t let her go that easily. Kidnapped and imprisoned by her true family’s enemies, Wendy soon learns that the lines between good and evil aren’t as defined as she thought. And those things she’d taken for granted may have been lies all along. With the help of the dangerously attractive Loki, she escapes back to the safety of Förening – only to be confronted by a new threat.

It’s time to make a choice – can she put aside her personal feelings for the sake of her country? Torn between duty and love she must make a choice that could destroy her one chance at true happiness.
My review:

Cover:
I love Torn's cover better than Switched. Love the falling autumn leaves and how the girl and the boy are holding hands. Again, I do prefer the US cover for Torn but this one is gorgeous in its own way too!
4 Forget-me-not flowers for the covers!
Story:

Great power comes with a price...

Wendy thought she can escape from Förening when she ran away with Rhys. But when she was kidnapped by the Vittras, she had no choice but to return to the world she wanted to leave behind. After being rescued by Tove and Finn, Wendy returned to Förening and finally decided to embrace her powers and royalty. Although, Wendy's relationship with Finn is not getting better and she started to fall for Loki, a Vittra. Who will Wendy choose?

Torn was a fast-paced and a very enjoyable book to me! I enjoyed the first book, Switched, but I enjoyed the sequel even more. There were so many things going on in this book and the story plot absolutely hooked me from the very beginning. I could not put this book down and finished it in about 3-4 hours. I was lost in the world of Trylle and the exciting things happening in this book. I love the new characters introduced in Torn, felt frustrated with Wendy and Finn's relationship and I am glad to find out that some things were finally explained in Torn. The ending made me dying to read Ascend. I also love how there were short stories from different characters' POV in the end of the book, following the end of Torn!

Characters:
Wendy has definitely grown and developed into a stronger character in Torn. I loved how she finally embraced her royal status as a Princess and future queen and her powers. Her relationship with Finn is so frustrating to me because even though they are attracted to each other, Finn is so stubborn and acts like a robot around her (as if he doesn't have any feeling for Wendy) and Wendy started to shut her feelings down for him. Loki, the new character introduced in Torn is really interesting and awesome! I have been anxious to meet him after reading the summary of Torn and my first impression of Loki was COOL. I love the developing relationship between Wendy and Loki throughout the book and the ending completely surprised me in a good way. I came to understand Elora in this book. I thought she was just an ambitious queen who only cares about herself but after knowing more about her in this book, I feel sympathy and sadness for her. The new characters in this book definitely made me enjoy Torn more!

Overall:
Torn is fast-paced and an exciting sequel to Switched, introducing new characters and revealing the hidden secrets in the world of Trylle. If you loved Switched, then go and grab a copy of Torn because the sequel is even better!
4 Forget-me-not flowers for Torn!
Thank you Pan Macmillan Australia for the review copy!

  2. I LOVED this series! I read them about a year ago when they were self published. I read all three in three nights. They are so addicting. I loved the character development of Wendy and Elora. Both their characters really surprised me. And yes I LOVED Loki! As soon as I met him I was like yes! He is amazing especially with the added bonus short stories. I think you will love Ascend.

  6. I think I'm amongst the few people who actually preferred Finn to Loki! I understand what you mean about him in this book but I still loved him. ;) Loki was a great character too but he did annoy he after a little while. I'm glad you enjoyed this Celine! I loved this book too. Awesome review! :)

  7. Oh, I have the first book of this series collecting dust in my bookshelf, but your review makes me eager to grab this book, Celine! It sounds really awesome! I keep hearing good reviews about this book, and everyone keep saying that the second book is what makes you love this series even more! <3

  8. STOP! IT'S LOKI TIME. CAN'T TOUCH THIS, TUN, TUNUNUN, TUNUNUN, TUNUNUN. CAN'T TOUCH THIS. *does a cool dance* Because I am a cool dancer.

I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU ARE NOT A FINN FAN, unlike someone above my comment *cough* Sam *cough*. Finn can go fall into a river for all I care. He just... GRATED on my nerves. Loki is the star of my life and I can't live without him. JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU READ ASCEND. You'll fall over your feet for him.

  10. Yay, I love it when a sequel is even better than the first! No sophomore slump here. I haven't read any of Amanda Hocking's books but I think her life story is pretty interesting. Even without reading the books, I loved reading your review! It's so frustrating when the love interest doesn't show their feelings and that's usually when I'm like GO FOR THE OTHER DUDE to the heroine, ha. I can tell I will probably be like that with Loki. Awesome review, Celine. <3

  11. Grrrr Finn, I'm already shaking my first at you, damnit! But Loki. LOKI! So I started reading a bit of this a couple weeks ago, enough to meet Loki and I like what I've seen so far :D I'm really eager to see how his relationship with Wendy develops. I really enjoyed Switched, so you have me now even more excited to read Torn!

    As always, fabulous review!! <3

  13. YES! Absolutely and totally and completely -- I thought this book was better than the first one in every way too!! And if you could marry me off to Loki, I would be such a happy girl! x) I was so frustrated with Finn too. I wanted to shake him by the shoulders and yell at him for refusing Wendy, but at that one last scene near the end of the book with him and her? I wanted to melt to the floor, it was so heartbreaking and sweet! <3 Ohhh goooossssh, why can't the 24th of April come sooner? I need more Loki and Finn!

    Amazing review, Celine! :) <3

  15. Hanging head in shame, I bought this series for my kindle back in 2009 when it was so cheap and still haven't read it, after reading both yours and Mimi's reviews, I am kicking myself, now I need to find the time to read it :)
