Triple Review: The Summer series by Jenny Han

The Summer I Turned Pretty, It's Not Summer Without You, We'll Always Have Summer
The Summer I Turned Pretty
Genre: Young Adult
Pages: 276
Published: May 5th 2009
Author: Jenny Han

Summary from Goodreads:
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer--they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

Summary from Goodreads:
Can summer be truly summer without Cousins Beach?
It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come.
But when Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared, Belly knows what she must do to make things right again. And it can only happen back at the beach house, the three of them together, the way things used to be. If this summer really and truly is the last summer, it should end the way it started--at Cousins Beach.

We'll Always Have Summer

Genre: Young Adult
Pages: 291
Published: April 26th 2011
Author: Jenny Han

Summary from Goodreads:
It's been two years since Conrad told Belly to go with Jeremiah. She and Jeremiah have been inseparable ever since, even attending the same college-- only, their relationship hasn't exactly been the happily ever after Belly had hoped it would be. And when Jeremiah makes the worst mistake a boy can make, Belly is forced to question what she thought was true love. Does she really have a future with Jeremiah? Has she ever gotten over Conrad? It's time for Belly to decide, once and for all, who has her heart forever.

My review:
Wow, I didn't realize it's been a while since I posted my last review. I've been so busy and I decided to review only books I really really love and really really want to review. I never stop reading for sure but when I end up with this book, I was like 'gotta read, gotta keep reading, must never stop, have to know what happens with Conrad and Jeremiah and Belly'. So I finished the whole 3 books in 2 days! It's a very addictive series for me and a perfect summer read. [Sighs] Summer's coming soon but it's not summer yet. How I miss summer after reading this book. If this is summer, I will just grab these 3 books, my sunblock, sunglasses, swimming suit, a lounge chair, a hat and drive to the nearest beach. There, I will set up my lounge chair, sitting while reading these books, occasionally swimming in the waters. What do I mean by this? I'm saying that The Summer series is a very perfect read for Summer. Trust me. It's such a pity I read this during the Spring and not Summer. I would really love to read this book in the beach, relaxing. But anyway, it's such a great series.

The Summer series is in the point of view of Isabel a.k.a Belly who always visit her mother's best friend summer house in Cousin beach every summer. Susannah, Belly's mum's best friend has 2 sons, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. She's been going to Cousins all her life and she was usually never included in the guys' activity (Jeremiah, Conrad and Steven, Belly's brother) but this summer something changed. They finally noticed her and there goes the sweet summer love story. In The Summer I Turned Pretty, there are flashbacks from when Belly was a child and what happened during her summer in the Cousins. I love the ending a lot because Belly ends up with her first love (Can you guess? ;) and I really hoped that it was going to be the same way until the next book, It's Not Summer Without You. But, it wasn't. Things were not going right between them and the ending of the second book made me really angry. Not with the author of course, but with Belly because I feel like she is two-timing someone and also herself. The third book tells that Belly is getting really serious with one of the Fishers and I really felt like 'killing' Belly if she doesn't break up with this person and I was really glad she did by the end of the book. I love happy endings and this series ends happily. From the first moment I read The Summer I Turned Pretty, I am Team Conrad. I like Jeremiah too because he was so fun-going, cheerful and likes to joke but I wouldn't want someone too cheerful that he takes things easily and never takes things seriously. With Conrad, he's someone who is very good at taking care of someone else. He is very smart, neat (always tidies up his bed in the morning, even in the hotel!) and he's sweet although he is sometimes very cold and I don't understand why he's like that to Belly. Belly struggles a lot with her relationship with the two brothers and this book is just so sweet. The romance is refreshing and I can feel the heat of the hot sun showering me when I read this book. At first, I liked Jeremiah as much as Conrad because he was just the exact opposite of him but in the third book, I find out so many things about him that I really opposed him and hated him. Of course I won't spoil you, you'll have to find out what he did to make me hate him! ;)

Because this is a triple review of The Summer series, I am summarizing everything I feel about this book quite shortly. I simply enjoy every part of this book and I still remember the way I gush, I swooned, I hit the book when I'm annoyed and happy. It's a beautifully written summer reads and if you guys want to read this, I recommend reading it in summer! It'll be so perfect and who knows, you might find your own Conrad and Jeremiah while reading this! ;)

Overall: We'll always have Summer, won't we? ;) Let me describe one thing I feel about this book. It makes me feel the heat of the sun showering me and making me pretty. So, this is a must read, especially in summer!!! Love love love this book. I can't stop reading and I'd like to be grateful for such a beautiful summer read!!!

5 Forget-me-not flowers for The Summer series!
Note: I'm reading Endless Summer by Jennifer Echols next! Another summer read and the summary sounds similar to The Summer I Turned Pretty. Any of you ever read the book? Do you have any recommendations for Summer reads! Just leave a comment! :)

  1. I have the first two books. I'm happy with them because I've read that there's a wedding proposal and I think they're old enough to be out of high school in a book. Is that true? No spoilers! :)
