Summary from Goodreads:
I don't do dangerous.  Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha-that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number-one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing-and I don't know if I can get it back.

Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me....
Cover:
Gorgeous! I love the dark theme of the cover and the wings! The guy is also similar to how I imagined Bishop looks like. If it weren't for the cover, Richelle Mead's blurb would have convinced me to read this book!

Story:

What if a kiss can sate your hunger?

When I first started reading Dark Kiss, I knew that there would be something about angels or demons, judging by the cover and the summary but the theme of angels and demons in this book is different to what I expected.

Samantha develops a hunger after she was kissed by her crush. It's not just any hunger, it's a hunger for humans' soul and in order to sate her hunger, she has to kiss someone to get their soul. This is a Gray. Samantha has no idea what happens to her until she meets Bishop. Soon, she discovers that she is special and that something is about to happen in the town.

The book goes at a steady pace, unravelling the mysteries behind Samantha and Bishop slowly. I really enjoyed this book and the new concept of angels and demons. Angels and demons, despite being enemies, actually team up together in this book to fight the one who has been making the Grays. The ending is not a cliffhanger, but I still can't wait for the next book!

Characters:
Samantha's life completely changes after a kiss. Who would have thought that a kiss from your number one crush ends up with an insatiable hunger? Samantha is a cool heroine. She always tries to help someone else despite the fact that she needs help herself. I love the chemistry between her and Bishop. Bishop is a dark, mysterious but somehow sweet character. He can't deny his attraction with Samantha and he is very protective of Samantha even though they barely know each other. I also really liked the other characters such as Kraven, Zach and also Sam's best friend, Carly!

Overall:
Dark Kiss is the stunning and enticing first book in the new Nightwatchers series from Michelle Rowen. If you love a new concept of angels and demons, I recommend you to read this book! A kiss will satisfy Sam's hunger, but will she do it? With a team of gorgeous angels and demons, can Sam stop the darkness rising?
4 Forget-Me-Not flowers for Dark Kiss!
Thank you Harlequin Teen Australia for the review copy!

  1. I read this book some time back, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much as you did. It was original, but there were a few things that didn't bode too well with me. I'm glad you enjoyed it a lot more than I did though ! Lovely review, Celine. :)

  2. The cover is awesome isn't it! I really enjoyed this one. An interesting concept to have angels and demons work together. Also what a thing to have happen after kissing your number one crush! I want to go around kissing all the hot guys as it is but then adding the desire to suck souls as well and I wouldn't be able to control myself! LOL I loved Bishop and Kraven and their history together. Not exactly a cliffhanger but definitely dying to see what happens next.

  4. I've heard great things about this already, and I'm convinced, despite my initial skepticism. I'm glad Samantha is a heroine ready to help others whenever she can, she sounds like someone I'd really love to meet.
    Lovely review as usual, Celine.

  5. I've seen mixed reviews for this one, but I love the sound of it! It's quite different to what I thought it'd be - I'm intrigued by the "hunger" she feels after the kiss! Great review, I'll have to check this one out.

  6. Celine, I loved this book too!! (And oh my goodness, I have the BIGGEST crush on Kraven and Bishop -- like, if I was stuck anywhere for a day, I'd pick those two boys to come snark-talk with me! <3) One of my favourite things about this was the originality of the angel lore too -- we don't get a lot of kiss-a-person-and-steal-their-souls books in the world at all LOL! And I actually really loved Samantha as a heroine. I would love to be her friend in real life! :)

    Amazing review, Celine! <3

  10. I still have to read this and look forward to it now after your review. It seems to be generating mixed reviews (maybe a love or hate kind of story?) but I am really intrigued! The characters sound like an interesting bunch. :) Great review, Celine!

  11. Great review, Celine! This one is up there on my TBR with some of my most anticipated upcoming reads. I'm so sad I haven't read it yet! I love that you say it all unravels kinda slowly. I hate books that are just TOO fast-paced, but I love the ones that get the pacing "just right."

  12. Ah, you seem to love it slightly more than I did, Celine! I like the plot, the idea of team angel-demon is very exciting! <3 I think it's hard to connect with Samantha though, so I'm glad to hear that you think she's a really cool character! She's certainly a kickass in the end. :)

Lovely review like always, Celine! :)
