My fourth book review: Hourglass

  Hourglass
Genre: Young Adult
Pages: 397
Published: 14th June 2011
Author: Myra McEntire

Summary from Goodreads:
One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.
So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.
Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

Full of atmosphere, mystery, and romance, Hourglass merges the very best of the paranormal and science-fiction genres in a seductive, remarkable young adult debut.

My review:
After reading many positive reviews of Hourglass by Myra McEntire in different blogs, I just had to order it online! I can't find it in any local bookshops so I decided to buy it online although it took me ages to finally receive it. Was it worth waiting? 100 + 10 %!! It's TOTALLY WORTHED!

Hourglass tells the story of Emerson Cole, a girl who sees people from the past (more than just ghost). Her brother tried to help her by bringing her to different sessions with different people who claim to be able to help her. Of course, none was able to because most of them were fake until....Michael Weaver came along. He claimed that he was able to help Emerson. But, Emerson did not believe him, until she knew that Michael was just like her. Michael Weaver works for the Hourglass company and that's where the title of this book came from. There was a chemistry between Emerson and Michael because whenever they touch, electric charge sparks from them. After meeting Michael, Emerson finally understood that her ability was more than just seeing people from the past.

W-O-W! This book is brilliant! A remarkable debut! I just love reading paranormal stories and I never thought that this book was going to be about time travel! It reminds me a little bit of the TV show Heroes where one of the characters was able to time travel. Emerson is such a lovely character. She loves her brother and did not want her brother to feel burdened by her ability. When she meets Michael, she finally had someone to understand her, even her loss of parents. And Michael totally leave readers breathless! He is so handsome, understanding and would do anything for Emerson. One quite annoying thing about Michael was he kept on reminding Emerson and probably himself that their relationship should be professional and nothing more. Until 3/4 of the book, we finally get to see how Michael truly loves Emerson. Oh, and there's Kaleb too! He's similar to Emerson because they both lost their parents and more of a bad boy compared to Michael. But don't worry readers! If you hate love triangles, it's not what's happening in this book! Emerson is totally falling hard for Michael! (Don't forget the electric sparks everytime they touch!). There's this one bad guy called Jack and I never thought he was the bad guy until the end. Many surprises and things you never thought would have happened in this book. I really enjooy reading books with storyplots that are not easy to guess. We all love surprises, don't we?

Paranormal theme are very common in young adult but it's been a while since I read something about time. You know what they say : "Time is money" and I just loved the idea of Myra giving the characters different abilities related to time. Every single page makes you want to read more and more. The cover is awesome and I can't stop reading. Finished this book in 5 hours!

Overall: Time is precious, so go and read Hourglass now! It will definitely leave you breathless, thinking about it everyday and don't forget the gorgeous guy: Michael Weaver! I can't wait for the next series and Myra just posted Hourglass Deleted Scene! 2 words for this book: Time and love!

I just wish I had the ability to time travel and change the past!

5 forget-me-not flowers rating for Hourglass!
